it's not so much what you say as how you say it.

LiveJournal
You may like to check out my LiveJournal. I've been having some issues with Blogger lately, so I'm going back to LiveJournal for a bit, I think. I'll also be doing stuff on MySpace. Perhaps once in a while on Blogger. But it's been irritating me lately.

GO HERE NOW!

Bayfest washout
So sad.

This is Bayfest weekend in Port Rowan. It was going to be one of the biggest and best ones yet (I was talking with one of the organizers).

So far, this is what our day has been like.

With any luck, Ernesto will be long gone by tomorrow. Tomorrow afternoon is a huge parade, followed by a fabulous fireworks show in the evening.

we thank all applicants for their interest
I have applied for so many jobs in the past few weeks... I can't say how many, because I really don't know. Monster.ca has made it so easy to apply for jobs that I have lost track... and the fact that I can just email my resume as an attachment has made the whole process something I don't even really think about.

One of these days (I really hope) I might even hear from one of the places I've applied to. So far, nada. Mind you, some of the competitions haven't even closed yet... but here's the thing. A resume - no matter how personalized or what have you - can't even come close to expressing what an applicant for a job is really like. They can look over all the different types of jobs I've had, but they don't know the story behind it all...

But you know, I'm not worried. God has never let me down as far as jobs go. If He intends for me to be working, He'll line me up - He always does. So I just get my applications in, and wait.

Unwise Bedtime Activity
It is after 11:30 p.m. and I am sitting in bed, tapping away at my laptop, listening to music and...

Eating A Large Chunk Of Maple Sugar.

I could make a very long list of why that is a really stupid thing to be doing right before going to sleep, but I won't. I'm sure you can think of plenty on your own.

What really matters (to me, anyway) is that I had the chunk of maple sugar, and I wanted to eat it. So that is precisely what I am doing.

If you've been wondering why I haven't been posting on here quite as much, the answer is simple. I've been posting on my other blogs as well, on LiveJournal and MySpace (what's with the two-in-one word thingie?), and if you don't already know where to find me on there, I can tell you it's really not hard, once you figure out that I have the same userID no matter where I go (hint: whirligirl).

IMVU
I just downloaded this 3D chat thing, IMVU, that gives you a moving 3D avatar and stuff. I haven't really tried it out yet, but I know that Jen downloaded it too... so with any luck we'll be able to get the thing up and running. I certainly don't expect it will replace MSN, but it could be fun.

If you want to check it out, it's here.

If you do get it, look me up - you know who I am - Whirligirl!

Mystifying
I have been online now for about 2 hours tonight, if not a little longer. And in that time, not one of my usual "chatters" has been on.

I feel so alone.

Not to mention that I feel totally like I am without a life.

Catharine looks like...
I saw this on Jen's site...
I did something like this a while back. This one, you type "(your name) looks like" into a google search, and see what comes up.

  • This is what the name "Catharine" looks like in Japanese:. "Catharine" in Japanese characters. It is pronounced "KYASARIN".
  • Catharine looks like cathartic .
  • Catharine looks like an unmarried sister-in-law, but there is notelling.
  • Catharine looks like she just got a wiff of something unfavorable .
  • Catherine looks like a Disney princess here.
  • Catherine Looks Like A Terrorist.
  • Catherine: Looks like it's my turn to eat crow *gnaw gnaw gnaw*.
  • Catherine looks like she had many plastic surgery and Sara's just isn't that pretty .
  • Catherine looks like a cold, calculating liar certainly not a religious ...
  • Catherine looks like she has had a makeover. She looks great. Her teeth are so white looks different but beautiful.
  • Catherine looks like she's been punched in the stomach.
  • Catherine looks like she's resorted to self-abuse by sticking a shrimp fork into a power outlet and holding it for five seconds.
  • Catherine looks like Ashford.
  • Well, Catherine, looks like she's found the stairway to heaven.
  • Catherine looks like someone who has just glimpsed some unspeakable horror.
  • Catherine looks like she's with her grandfather.
Well, that was mildly entertaining.

things can only get better
I'll have to take Howard Jones' word on that.

Yesterday after supper, Katya and Holly and I went out to the back yard, for the girls to play on the swing set. They were swinging merrily, when all of the sudden I felt a horrid burning feeling on my hand. I said "AAAA, AAAA!" (not screaming) and looked down to see a bee stinging me. Katya said, "What is it, Mommy?" I told her I just got stung by a bee - she shrieked and ran to the opposite end of the yard from me. I quickly got Holly and took her in to my mom, all the while my hand throbbing with an incredible pain. Katya was still shrieking in the back yard. I went out to get her, and finally convinced her that she could go past the swing set without getting stung. I was beginning to cry from the pain at that point. My mom helped get Katya in while I ran to the bathroom and put my hand in cold water. Mom got some baking soda which I made into a paste and put on my thumb. As the pain slowly subsided, I said to Mom, "Is Holly OK?", because I had just noticed that the side of her face was all red and swollen. Turns out she had been stung, too... I put some baking soda on her cheek and we kept a close eye on her. After a bit I put some homeopathic calendula gel on my hand and Holly's face, and it immediately took away the sting.

Dad went out and sprayed every bee, yellow jacket and wasp nest he could find in the backyard with WD-40. And the ones that he could, he took the blowtorch to them.

Then last night, around 4ish, Katya came into my room, saying that she was afraid of the dark. How she managed to walk through a dark house to get to me is beyond me... but anyway... finally I gave her a flashlight and sent her back to her room.

About a minute later she was back at my door. "I don't know what to do with the flashlight." I told her just to put it on the floor next to her bed. She was happy with that, and went back to her room.

About 5 minutes later I heard another big bump-bang sound, like the door again. But it wasn't Katya. As a matter of fact, it wasn't even the door to my room. It was the cellar door (the two most beautiful words? see Donnie Darko), which is through a small closet off my bedroom. The noise continued with a banging, scratching - and the sound of wings. "Oh crap," I thought. My cat (who spent the night indoors - the comfort of a cat curled up on the bed is almost as good as another person) was very interested in what was on the other side of the door. I went back to bed and laid there, wondering if I should go up and tell my dad, or if I should wait till morning. I decided I would go tell him, which I did. He came down to have a look (because I had been afraid to) and sure enough, it was a bat.

Eventually the noise stopped, and when Dad went to check this morning, he couldn't find the bat anywhere.

I'm at work today. And here is a word of advice: Do not go to a book store and say, "I bought a book by a woman, I think her name is Alice something, and I like to get another book by her." For Pete's sake, the least you could do is remember her last name, too.
